We started because the industry was failing the people

it was supposed to serve.

28 years ago, career management meant a binder, a personality test, and a coach who checked in once a week. It wasn’t enough then. It’s nowhere near enough now. We built something different — and we’ve spent nearly three decades proving why it matters.

The moment that changes everything is rarely dramatic. It's usually quiet. A person in a chair across from you, accomplished and confused, wondering what they did wrong. They didn't do anything wrong. They just had the wrong map.

Notus Human Capital was founded on a single observation: that talented, hard-working, genuinely accomplished people were navigating career transitions with tools and frameworks that were built for a different era — and that nobody was building what they actually needed.

Not a coaching program. Not a résumé service. Not a job board with a premium subscription. A real partner. Someone who understood the psychology of transition, the mechanics of the modern market, and the human cost of getting it wrong — and who was willing to stay in the game until the result was real.

That’s what Notus became. And over 28 years and more than 10,000 clients, that’s what it has remained — even as the tools, the market, and the stakes have changed dramatically around it.

Transition is not failure.

It’s one of the most psychologically complex experiences a professional can navigate. The shame that often accompanies it is a cultural artifact, not a reflection of reality. We work hard to separate the two.

Advice without execution is theater.

The career coaching industry is full of brilliant thinkers who hand over a strategy and step back. We believe the real value is in staying — in running the play, not just drawing it up.

Technology serves people. Not the other way around.

We built Notian AI™ because the tools we needed didn’t exist. But every tool we use is in service of a human outcome. We have never let a platform replace a relationship.

Rhett founded Notus Human Capital nearly three decades ago with a conviction that has never changed: that career management, done right, is one of the most high-stakes, high-impact things you can do for another human being — and that most of the industry wasn’t doing it right.

Over 28 years, he has personally coached thousands of executives through transitions, built and rebuilt the firm’s methodology to match a changing market, and developed a set of proprietary tools — Notian AI™, DirectConnect™, Black Hat EQ Certification™ — that have no real equivalent in the industry.

He is also, notably, deeply suspicious of firms that talk about human potential without showing up for the humans. At Notus, the founder is still in the work. That’s not an accident.

Notus is not a large firm. We are not trying to be. We made a deliberate decision years ago to stay small enough that every client gets a real relationship — not an intake form and a coach assignment from a pool of contractors.

Every client engagement is led by a senior strategist. Every résumé is reviewed by a human before it leaves our hands. Every outreach effort is built for the specific person, not adapted from a template.
